An Introduction

The beginning of the year. A clean slate. A great time to start a collection of thoughts, ideas and challenges to save even money in big and small ways. It's something I've been doing for 7 years and am always striving to save even more. That's why I was inspired to start this blog.

A quick background on me. I'm a 29 year old wife/renter/couponer/oenophile/dog owner who loves to save a buck.  I love to go out with friends and see movies with my husband. I began tracking my spending in 2006 and discovered I was spending more than I was making. I was working two jobs at the time, as a professional graphic designer and worked 15-20 hours of retail on the side. I was getting no where paying off debts. I was just scraping by. I don't remember having an "I've had it" moment, but then I discovered the Dave Ramsey Baby Step Plan. I slowly but but surely saved up a $1000 emergency fund. Over the next 5-6 years paid off my car and student loans. A feat I can barely comprehend, as the total of my debt was well above my yearly salary.

Now on the other side of the debt mountain, I'm working on – with my husband – saving up for an awesome belated honeymoon while also saving for a down payment for a house. In this blog, I hope to encourage myself and anyone that reads this, that saving money is done one step at a time. It might be canceling your satellite subscription, not ordering the $12 martini or as simple as finding a coupon code online. Pennies might not be worth much anymore, but you'll start to notice if you save enough of them.
